For some of the people that get in touch with us via mail, our social media channels or even phone Valencia City living is the be-all and end-all of their property search here. If they cannot get what they want in the city itself then they don’t want anything. That’s totally legit as a mindset but might be a bit limiting. After all you don’t know about something you don’t know about, what’s just around the corner may be as good or even better than what you are looking at and have set your heart on. Today therefore we are going to look at changing that mindset. What are the benefits of getting a place near to Valencia City as opposed to in the city itself, what are the downsides and where are the best places to look if you are interested in thinking outside the box. In order to do this we are going to take some examples and show what your money buys you in the city and look at comparable prices outside the city in what we can call the Valencia city suburbs.
The Best Neighbourhoods in Valencia
We recently listed a property in Benimaclet and described it somewhat controversially as the best neighbourhood in Valencia. The author of the listing will now be called to account at our next meeting sometime in the dim and distant future and if they can’t justify that description they will be summararily executed of course. However, some people agree that Benimaclet is the best, or at least one of the best, neighbourhoods in Valencia, even though it is largely overlooked.
Today though we thought we would look at the candidates for that title, why they are popular, who they are popular for and where they are in the city so that you get more of an idea of the layout of Valencia and what surprises may lie in store for you around every corner.
When Perfect is the Enemy of Good or Great
I recently wrote an article about the Paradox of Choice, you can see it at the link. In it we talked about there being less choice in the market but that is not necessarily a bad thing. We talked about positive constraints and knowing what you want when you are buying property or, to put it bluntly, anything really. When you are sure about what your requirements are then it is a lot easier to find what you are looking for. However, this is a follow up, this is a warning and it’s important when looking for property or anything, sometimes perfect is your enemy because perfect doesn’t exist, sometimes good enough is great!
The Independence of Valencia
One of the things that surprises people on coming to Valencia is the variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and the rest. Only yesterday a client commented that it was so refreshing to not come upon a Starbucks on every corner. I had to admit there are four or five but told her that one had closed down because nobody ever went there. Years ago I remember a friend’s daughter being so excited that a Starbucks was going to open in Valencia because… well she couldn’t explain why exactly… it was just it was something different. She wasn’t even a coffee drinker.
