  1. Me and my partner have looked at moving to Valencia recently. We moved to New Zealand a few years back but it was “too far from home” so now we would love somewhere like spain (hot, but not too far away).

House prices seem soooo cheap compared to the UK. I’ve seen what would be described as “luxury villas” and be the best part of £1 million in the UK up for sale at 250k euros. The 160k one above looks a bargain!

The thing that puts us off is the language barrier – neither of us speak spanish. Jobs shouldn’t be too much of a problem as I have my own business I can run from anywhere, but day to day living, without speaking the languauge is a bit worrying.

    1. Hi Shane

Thanks for the message. Offer made on the house yesterday which was rejected. We will see what happens. Interesting what you say. More and more people are able to work from anywhere, they are in effect Location Independent. This is one of the issues we talked about in our book last month “The Secrets to Living and Working in Spain” which you can get at http://www.workinspain.co. However I don’t think you should be worried by day to day living. I know people who don’t speak any Spanish after years here but get by. However I would not advise you to do that. By doing that you are missing out on so much of what Spanish life is and what it can offer you. Start learning Spanish and once you have a basic grasp get over here and use it and you will be surprised at how quickly you can pick it up.
Also do an intensive course in Valencia for a month or so on arriving and then use it in the afternoons.

      1. I wouldn’t WANT to not speak Spanish, like you say, you miss out on so much. I have got several CD courses, a couple of books and even a handy translator on my phone, but its difficult to forget the French & German and learn Spanish.

As usual, its dark, cold and raining today in the UK 🙁
