So here it is then. The last of our 100 tips for people moving to Spain or thinking about it at least and this one is the most obvious of all. However firstly let me tell you about the journey to get here.
I started this series of videos after reading something about how to keep people coming back for more on your blog and various social media platforms, thanks to Don Crowther for that. I had been thinking about the concept of market leadership for some time thanks to Ed Dale and the people at The Challenge and I wanted to do something that provided huge value to people wanting to come over to Spain and at the same time would establish the brand of Valencia Property and Houses For Sale In Spain as a market leader in the sale of property to foreigners.
Here is number 100. Read on below the video.
(Sorry for the self promotion in this one but after 100 I thought it was time)
After a decade of selling properties to foreign buyers, with presence in the Spanish speaking market too, I was reminded that there are innumerable cases of people packing their bags and heading back to the UK or elsewhere often with their tails planted firmly between their legs. Many of the tips are taken from the mistakes that others have made over the years (just to give the most obvious example not learning Spanish or even attempting to learn it as stated in tip number 12 is a huge mistake because when things change after 7 years here not having the language to fall back on is a major fail.) So I started to make a list. The longer the list got the easier it was to make it funnily enough as one thing led into another. I asked for ideas on Twitter too from people who had already gone through the experience just to make sure that these things I had noticed over the years weren't just my experiences. I then started to put the videos together the day after making the list and as you may have noticed if you have been paying attention over the last few days, weeks and months, I actually recorded them in just four days! It is the editing that takes time, the actual content creation is easy. Now my life has changed hugely since I started this project.
Right in the middle of it I did a road trip through France with my daughter to take her to university in the UK and still I made sure that every day one of the videos was uploaded. Even on the way back on my own I made sure that a video a day was uploaded to YouTube so that people could rely on something being there every day, and remember free wifi connections are not easy to find when driving through France. On the subject of my daughter the house is emptier without her here of course but she is having a good time.
I have gained at least three clients directly from the videos who are only viewing properties with my agency because they say that it is obvious that I know what I am talking about and having put everything on the line and in the open they feel that they already know me and can trust me. Why do you think I appear directly on every video? Every time you as a potential client views a video you get to know me a bit more and are able to identify with me and also what you are experiencing as you look for a property to buy in Spain. I have been asked to give talks on market leadership and social media due to this project and my seeming omnipresence on the web. People have asked for me to joint venture their projects and offered me opportunities that I wouldn't have got otherwise. The reaction to the "The Secrets To Working and Making a Living in Spain" has gone off the scale because I can just say to people, "you see what we talk about, well this is how you do it". Avenues have been freed up everywhere just by stepping up to the plate, being accountable and getting stuff done. What is the return on investment though?
I think it is incalculable. Apart from the obvious monetary aspect the learning from this is huge. So I will leave you with some questions: 1) How can you do something like this in your market? 2) Can you step up to the plate every day for 100 days without fail? 3) What value can you offer in your field? And finally... 4) What should I do next? Any ideas welcome because I have a kernel of an idea but it needs to develop still into something fully formed and suggestions may make it even better. Regards Graham PS Thanks for all of the support from people in social media for this campaign, retweeting, posting to Facebook, liking the YouTube videos and more. It is appreciated and there are too many of you to name individually here. However reciprocity is the word for when you do your projects! And finally thanks to all of you who have been following the videos, commenting on them and thanking me for the information. It is good to know that the work and effort is appreciated. One day I might do an outtake video but that involves a lot more cursing!! Related Reading 1) Buy the Work in Spain Book 2) Don Crowther on Twitter 3) The Challenge
