Is it possible to buy a view rather than a house. Today I was at a house in Calicanto that we have for sale and the house is absolutely fantastic in one sense but I suspect anyone who buys it will be buying the view. The house itself needs work but if you are ever washing the dishes in the kitchen you will have the most fantastic view.
So do you pay for a view or do you pay for a house?
I made this mistake in the past. I bought a house in Olocau which had beautiful views. But actually I didn't buy a house I bought a plot of land and had a house built for me on the plot of land. For reasons we won't go into involving mortality, builders and family, the house took too long to build and by the time it was built I didn't need it any more, the market had crashed and we gave it back to the bank because it was costing us money that we didn't need to be paying out. But I'd fallen in love with a view rather than the house itself.
So my question here is very simple, how much is a view worth. This can be an interesting thing when you are in a flat in the centre of the city because sometimes you will have no view at all and if you are on the top floor you're more likely to have a good view. The difference between not having any view and having a decent view in the city can be tens of thousands of euros but what is the difference with a house?
If you buy a house that is in the valley you are unlikely to get a view because Spanish houses do tend to have fences and hedges around them, ultra privacy tends to be the norm, generally blocking views from houses but also making sure that people cannot see you.
If you buy a house in the mountains you would generally have a view but you're more likely to get good facilities in the valley than when you are in the mountains because it is more difficult to get proper drainage, water mains and to get electricity and gas points up into the hills. So the question is is it worth more to have a view or is it worth more to have the facilities.
Just to give you an example I thought I'd give you some pictures of houses that have great views and houses that may not have great news but are great houses take a look at the pictures and get back to me what you think is it better to have a view or is it better to have facilities?
