The Effect Of The Valencia Fires

You may have noticed a lack of posts in the last few weeks on the blog. This is due to the usual stupor of the Spanish summer and also to me having been on holiday for ten days in France. Anyway I got back and had promised you some pictures from the wildfires that had affected Valencia so I went out the other day and took some on the Altury Estate and around Turis. It turns out that fires really like dry riverbeds as they suck the oxygen down into the riverbed from around and therefore flow like water down the "Barranco". However what fires don't like are small concrete walls and watered gardens. Wherever I looked the house were mostly untouched by the effects of the fires, some hedges a bit charred. However the situation around certain areas can only be described as desolate. Looking on the bright side we know that the grasslands and bushes will recover in the next few years although the trees will require some time, it is actually better to leave the burnt land as is for a couple of years for the seeds that have dropped to take root. The estate of Altury which was evacuated took the brunt of the fire as it came through from Dos Aguas. However although a couple of wooden houses were affected, the value of wooden houses is diving like the Euro, most of the actual houses and their gardens, when surrounded by concrete walls even if low concrete walls, were unaffected. Also as the roads were wide the fire was stopped from crossing at the top of the estate and forced down into the riverbed. After saying all of that we have had a few calls from people in the affected areas deciding to sell their property now. If they are worth the money being asked we will have them on the site soon. There is one advantage of buying where there has been a fire and that is that it is very unlikely to happen again in the near future and you get to see, and possibly help, with the regeneration. Take a look at the pictures showing the effects of the fires and if you are reading this in an area affected send us your pictures too. The property below was unaffected by the fires too despite being positioned on Altury. I feel the owner might be interested in coming to a deal though as he has moved back to his home country a couple of months ago, Germany, and is looking to sell.
