People love Valencia City when they come here. Because of this many city lovers decide that living in Valencia is their only option. There are plenty of reasons to believe this, just take a look at our 112 reasons to live in Valencia post here. However, what if we told you that you can still potentially have it all, you can have a lot more for your money while still having easy and fast access to all that the city has to offer you yet you get to live somewhere perhaps better for you, certainly bigger and maybe more suitable long term? How would you react? Interested?

In the last article we mentioned areas of Valencia that are alternatives to the more well known destinations of the city. Today we are looking at areas around the city with easy access where you can get more for your money and still enjoy all that Valencia has to offer you.
Firstly, let’s look at the metro system of Valencia because that means you can be outside the city and still have easy access. We are particularly interested in the top half of this plan, lines 1, 2 and 9.

As you can see on the metro map you can jump on the metro at Betera, Lliria or Ribarroja, the end of three lines, and they take you into the city centre. You can also hop on at places such as La Eliana, Burjassot, Godella and even at the airport and be in the city relatively quickly. This is convenient but it is not the only method of getting into the city.
We also need to look at the Cercanias Train Network. Here we are mostly interested in the light blue line below to the South to Gandia and the purple line to the west passing through Cheste and Chiva on its way to Utiel. Again this gives us the possibility of getting into the centre of the city in a maximum of an hour while living away from the city. (Funnily enough you could also live in Utiel or Requena, well outside the city, and be in the centre in just 25 mins on the fast AVE train that stops at Utiel-Requena on its way down from Madrid. This option is a little more pricey of course)

We should also take into consideration the fact that many towns and villages are connected to the city by direct bus services. Edetania bus runs a route that links up with the Metro in Betera to Naquera and Serra every hour for example but there are also companies such as Bunyol Bus that connects Buñol, Turis and Godelleta with the city. For our purposes today and so as not to get too far away from our original idea of having it all we are going to look at metro and train served areas and the link to Naquera and Serra from Betera station.
The metro isn’t as quick as it may look on first viewing. It stops quite a lot on the way into the city. Therefore Lliria to Central Valencia takes 51 minutes on the slowest train, it takes just 25-30 minutes driving depending on the traffic. La Eliana to the centre is around 35 minutes by metro and Betera to the centre is around half an hour whereas from Burjassot-Godella station it takes 11 minutes. From Ribarroja on line 9 it takes around 31 minutes into the city centre.
By Cercanias local trains take you from Chiva into the city in an hour, driving is just thirty minutes, from Gandia it also takes around an hour whereas you can drive into the city in around 50 minutes so the train is just as convenient in this case.
Let’s look at what you can get for your money in places within an hour of the city.
La Eliana
La Eliana is one of the closer places to Valencia. Half an hour to the centre on the metro, 25 minutes by bus and twenty minutes driving. You can see one of our articles about La Eliana here. Houses with pool and garden in La Eliana on a good sized plot can be yours within walking distance of the town and metro for 250-350k.
An example of the type of house you can find in La Eliana is this five bedroomed place on a 740m2 plot. Well presented and with luscious established gardens you are just five minutes from the metro station and therefore half an hour from Valencia centre.

Betera
Betera to the centre of Valencia is half an hour on public transport. You can get a 2-3 bedroomed penthouse apartment in Betera with a good sized terrace for entertaining and enjoying and even with shared pool and gardens for around 150k. A five bedroomed town house with excellent terrace can be found for just 190k.

There is also plenty of luxury property for sale in Betera around the El Escorpion Golf Course. This modernist villa for 1.3 million Euros has just been reduced in price and may well accept offers.

Godella
Godella lies on the metro line from Betera and is just 11 minutes into the city on the metro. It’s also very close to many international schools in and around the Campolivar estate and is therefore excellent for families looking to have a short ride into school or even to walk or bike ride.
The town of Godella itself has an excellent zone of terraced houses near to the station and this 3 bedroomed restored town house in Godella is just a two minute walk from the station and therefore 15 minutes into the centre on the metro from leaving your front door.

Rocafort
We shouldn’t forget that right next to Godella we have Rocafort where you can find mansions to modernise like this one reduced by 800k to 1.2 million euros. It’s not for the faint hearted or those without deep pockets but it’s certainly a challenge worth taking on.

But you don’t need to be a millionaire to enjoy what Rocafort has to offer you either. This superb penthouse apartment in Rocafort below can be bought for 209k with two bedrooms and a garage although you wouldn’t really need a car as the metro is just a three minute walk away.

Naquera
Naquera as we have written before is one of our favourite places around Valencia. The metro line doesn’t serve Naquera or Serra directly but the bus service links with the metro to whizz people up the hill to Naquera in under 15 minutes from Betera station. Property in Naquera offers great value for money in a lovely environment. The apartment below for 63k is pretty impressive, fully furnished, with a lift and small terrace and on a quiet street with mountain views.

If you are looking for peace and quiet, a huge house and plenty of potential to put your own mark on a place then this 200k four bedroomed property is rather sumptuous. Large plot, pool and a whole downstairs area for redevelopment. Walking distance into town in around 20 minutes too.

And of course if you want a place with shared pool, gardens, tennis court and off road parking for a fraction of the price that it would cost you in Valencia city then this superb corner apartment with front and rear mountain views cannot be beaten. Excellent price and facilities just requiring a little tlc and modern furniture.

Gandia
A little further out from Valencia city but still a comfortable and cheap train ride into the city we can find Gandia. As an example of perfect property in Gandia we have this large villa and pool for under 300k. Roughly a fifteen minutes drive to the train station then an hour into the city or just spend an hour in your car and park up.

Chiva
Chiva has a railway station too and from El Bosque golf course to the station is roughly a ten minute drive. The truth is you can be in the city or at the airport in just 20-25 minutes so you might not want to park up at the railway station and then spend half an hour on the train but if you do… This tremendous house on the El Bosque golf course is perfect for those looking to get the Spanish Golden Visa for example.

Bear in mind that we have plenty of options both inside and outside the city for you. However, you may find that due to the lifestyle you want to design for yourself in Valencia it could be that places outside the city could make a huge difference in what you get for your money and how you live your life. You may find that a Valencia City Apartment to lock up and leave suits you perfectly but if not look at these alternatives, all of our properties apart from one or two are within half an hour of the city in the car.
