The clocks have gone back and while much of Northern Europe looks bleakly at dark early evenings, cold weather and four to five months of greyness, Valencia continues to revel in warm autumnal days with plenty of light until late and a less depressed atmosphere. If you are looking to buy a Valencia Property then you can enjoy this light from one of our properties, see below.
Many people in Spain think that Spain should be in the same time zone as the UK and Portugal. The truth is it should. The Greenwich Meridian virtually falls in Valencia, it is one of the largest cities falling on the meridian line. There is no logical reason for it to be an hour in front of UK time. The reason it is like that is political and grisly, Franco wanted to align Spain’s time with Nazi Germany so he did, that’s what dictators can do of course.
For us in Valencia though there are compensations. It means longer, lighter evenings throughout the winter and because we are further to the south many of those evenings are lovely and warm, meaning we can take advantage of them. On the winter solstice the sunset is at 5.41pm and we have 9 hours 23 minutes of daylight, probably sunny, that day.
In the summertime we get just under 15 hours of daylight in the middle of June and the sun going down around 9.30pm meaning it’s still quite light by 10pm. We wake up in the sun and many of us go to bed as the sun goes down after the kids have tired us out unless we are on the street having a few drinks at a pavement cafe with friends.
Terraces To Enjoy The Light
One thing this means is that there are huge advantages to having terraces in your apartment or house so you can sit outside and enjoy this excellent climate so in today’s article we are going to look at some views you can enjoy from terraces and balconies and some properties you might be interested in looking at so as you can enjoy your own late evening sunshine.

Palace in the Centre of Valencia
I cannot believe this is still available. The only full house in the centre of the city at a reasonable price, this Palace will set you back 575k Euros but has that Holy Grail of city living, a large terrace to enjoy the evenings, in fact it has two! (And it’s only a few hundred metres from the Holy Grail itself in Valencia Cathedral.) Take a look at the video below.
There are plenty more properties with stunning views on our main website. Take a look and ask for more information. Paris may be known as the City of Light but Valencia is really the City of Sunlight where you will struggle to have symptoms of seasonal affective disorder due to the lack of natural light in the winter.
