Valencia's Lake - The Albufera

One of the iconic images of Spain is the paella of course and Valencia is the home of Paella. Far removed from the tourist tat you can find on the main thoroughfares of the city where the Paella Mixta is a total corruption of real paella, you can find the Albufera lake and El Palmar just a ten minute drive out of Valencia, (or half an hour in the summer near to lunchtime). This video shows the Albufera lake, the restaurants in El Palmar, the home of paella, and incorporates a carcast talking about why you would want to go to such a lovely place to visit. Enjoy. Just a little bit of background about Paella. It is usually in the traditional form in Valencia full of Chicken, Rabbit, Green Beans and Broad Beans. No sign of shellfish except in the paella mixta which is not a traditional dish really. The restaurants around El Palmar have over 100 different rice dishes to try. They can be grouped together as Paella because that is the name of the dish it is made in rather than what it contains. The afficionados of Paella suggest the scrapings at the bottom, to us lesser mortals they are known as the burnt bits, are the best part of the paella. And finally every bloke and his dog in Valencia reckons he can rustle up the best paella in the World (apart from his mum's of course), and the macho virility shows at the merenderos on Sundays as they try to prove this can be quite hilarious. So as usual my question is, why are you not here in Valencia? If you want more information about the place or need a guide for your visit to Valencia then get in touch and ask. We will do our best to help you out.
